After her last serial, Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai, on Star Plus, Deepti Bhatnagar is planning to launch a new show, Shaadi Street, for the same channel. “It’s a weekly, will begin from October and be shown on Fridays,” says the actress and producer.
Not like Nukkad
Produced under her banner, Deepti Bhatnagar Productions (DBP), Shaadi Street is “essentially a love story based on the streets. It will not have the typical saas-bahu drama, but something different altogether,” she says.
Deepti denies it will be something like popular ’80s serial, Nukkad. “We have got permission from an American serial, a tele-novella, called Brides Avenue – it’s based on that. We are trying to get more quality shows on the channels.”
No director yet
The director of Shaadi Street hasn’t been finalised yet. “We have a fine creative team on board, which includes directors like Tigmanshu Dhulia and my husband Randeep,” says Deepti, adding that the cast “will comprise established TV and film actors and NSD graduates, as we require very good performers for the show.”
Will she and husband, actor-model-director Randeep, be seen on Shaadi Street? “No,” laughs Deepti. “I am already anchoring two shows (Yatra and Musafir Hoon Yaaron for Star TV), so where do I have the time to act? But yes, if it’s something interesting, I might do it. But not Shaadi Street, though it’s a fabulous script.”
Travel tales
DBP also is currently producing two other shows, Home Shanti Home and Exotica. “In Home Shanti Home, we cover a celebrity’s home and designer homes throughout India and abroad, while Exotica is a travel-based show where we take you to exclusive, unknown destinations, including wildlife resorts, where you can take a holiday.”
Sunday specials
All her shows are on Sunday. “Yes, you can say I hog the Sunday slot,” says the lady, who takes her two-year-old son, Shubh, for her shows.
“He’s travelled to 20 countries and many religious sites in India. He is blessed to have travelled to such places at such a young age,” Deepti says, contentedly.
